We've now arranged this page very differently from its original layout, to make it easier for you to find your way about a site that has grown enormously since we first started here in June 2009 - we hope you like this new version and find it easier to operate. Please let us know either way ...

Also use this page and the Navigation Tips page in conjunction with the site map page - as this site grows, it gets a bit more complicated!

It's probably a good idea to bookmark the Blog Spot, as we always post any news there of what new articles we've added, or other changes we've made anywhere within this web site.
The site map is a neatly presented graphic "map", showing how all the main parts of the site fit together, and the best way to get to them from each and every other section.
At present, a series of eight pages, running from Roman times to 1900
with internal links to several picture
and addition information galleries - a good place to start learning about the history of Portsmouth.

From hundreds of archives and individuals, we have assembled an incredible selection of photographs, many dating back to the mid-19th century, with explanatory text, etcetera - indexed alphabetically by area.
The District Gallery index again, but with the links to each area arranged on a map of Portsmouth, to make it easier for you to find what you're looking for - just click the icon for the appropriate area ...
This is set to be the largest index of all - a catalogue of links concerning people, places and events in the history of Portsmouth - arranged chronologically, with links to individual features for that event or person.

Based on an original feature that we produced in the Portsmouth & District Post magazine, to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar - now expanded and with several excellent pictures and maps.
All sorts of questions historical - more quizzes on their way very soon, too!
Links to sites that we've selected as having genuine Portsmouth historical content, rather than some of those sites that are simply excuses for advertising ...
You'll find them at the top or bottom of most pages in this web site - they take you to external web sites for some of the main historical attractions in the Portsmouth area.
There are also slightly larger versions of these links on the right hand side of this page..
Taken from Robin's web page on Express FM, we've put together a comprehensive web section for this weekly show, which feayures personal reminiscences, readings from old records, and interviews with people who are shaping current history for future generations.   Taken from Robin's web page on Express FM, we've put together a comprehensive web section for this weekly show, which feayures personal reminiscences, readings from old records, and interviews with people who are shaping current history for future generations.
We are still working on this feature, but it should be ready quite soon now - thanks for your patience and continued interest in our web site.
