The King William Gate at Old Portsmouth, the last of the four town gates to be built (in 1833/4). This photograph dates from
some time around 1850 and shows the effort that was put into the fortifications around Portsmouth, with a bridge and a moat,
and the small pedestrian gate on the left, which was used by foot travellers, when the main gate was shut and barred at night.
